ATRIAL FIB READER’S COMMENT, “This is a great book.”
These are the words of a Writer’s Digest judge for the 28th Annual Book Awards (2020). The review of IN A HEARTBEAT: The Ups & Downs of Life with Atrial Fib is my memoir in the category of Nonfiction/Reference Books
“This is a great book. It is so interesting to read a personal story about dealing with something as serious as Atrial Fibrillation, which is something that affects a lot of people. The author does a very good job of weaving their own personal history with AFib while explaining what it is and how people manage the disease. The author has a unique perspective because they have dealt with it for a long period of time. Each chapter weaves a story about one aspect the author has gone through, which plays into a larger narrative. This works well, because it organizes the book in a cohesive way, giving it a structure that builds suspense. It also helps the book have a solid pace. The story is interesting on a chapter basis but helps the overall story of the book. The conclusion the author reaches is also interesting, as it’s not one that we typically hear about in medicine. The story goes on, there’s no one solution but good health is a continuous journey.
The book is well designed. The cover design works on both the front and the back. The interior pages are designed nicely as well.”
